    Feeding a puppy of Caucasian Mountain dog (Caucasian ovcharka, Shepherd dog, Sheepdog, Kavkazskaya ovcharka)

    For the maintenance of the health of your puppy of Caucasian Mountain dog (Caucasian ovcharka, Shepherd dog, Sheepdog, Kavkazskaya ovcharka) correct mode of submission of food is necessary. Very frequently with the insufficient feeding and the poor keeping independent of hereditary factors dry or tender constitution is forming, with the abundant feeding and the overfeeding - the friability and the dampness constitution are observed, which is undesirable for our breed. During the millennia in the process of domestication the dog to a considerable degree approached in its needs to the food of master. But we must remember that dog, in spite of its adaptability to the habits of people, according to the development and the functions of the organs of digestion it nevertheless remained true to its wild ancestors. Its development, predatory jaws require continuous operation, they are not intended for by manna of porridge and sweetness. Relatively short dog bowels is not adapted to overcooked plant food in large quantities. Meat is necessary. Over-boiled meat in dog's stomach occurs more easily and it is more rapid than in other domestic animals. Therefore meat must be the main food of dogs. Raw meat is more useful for the dog than boiled. Valuable ration must include a sufficient quantity of proteins, fats, carbohydrates, vitamins, mineral substances, trace elements.

    Source of proteins serves: meat, fish, cottage cheese, dairy products. To puppies and to adult dogs is recommended the eggs feeding.

    Before 3 month of age the norm is 1 egg a day, after 3 month of age – 2 eggs a day.

    The nourishing value of fish is lower and, substituting meat by it, the quantity should increase approximately twice. It is possible to give raw sea fish , after removing head; for the puppies of Caucasian Mountain dog (Caucasian ovcharka, Shepherd dog, Sheepdog, Kavkazskaya ovcharka) - after passing with the bones through the meat grinder. It is desirable not to include in ration fish earlier than 3 month of age. Give river fish only in the thoroughly boiled form. Salty meat and fish give only in the boiled form, and before the melting soak in large quantities of water. Before 1,5 months puppies of Caucasian Mountain dog (Caucasian ovcharka, Shepherd dog, Sheepdog, Kavkazskaya ovcharka) should be given only the force-meat, but not the pieces of meat, to avoid indigestion.

    Fats must be given in the limited quantity. The surplus of fats implyies the indigestion, it disrupts the activity of the liver and is simply not necessary, if dog lives in the heat and it does not spend much energy. Fats are better mastered, if the dog obtains them in the mixture with other fodders - porridge, vegetables.

    Dairy products. Milk is useful, especially to puppies and to the feeding bitches. It is given fresh in small quantities. Prolonged milk feeding leads to stoutness and apathy of digestion process , and many cases of sterility also were noted. Cottage cheese - good thing, which prevents rachitis. It is prepared thus: in 0, 5 liters of the boiled milk add 1-2 st. of the spoon 10% solution of calcium chloride. Turned cottage cheese discard without wringing out and to give to puppy warm. Cottage cheese can be diluted by kefir. Feed the serum to the dog, as a drink. It is especially useful to give serum to feeding bitches, that strongly need calcium.

    The main source of carbohydrates are - cereals, rice.

    Sometimes you may substitute cereals by bread.

    Plant fodders: vegetables, verdure, fruits, root-crops - these sources of vitamins are given in the raw form, cut in small particles or passed through the meat grinder.

    The ground carrot must be given in combination with a small quantity of fat. In this case the carotene, which is contained in the carrot, is more completely converted into the vitamin "A".

    Verdure - lettuce, dill, young nettle, leaves of dandelion add into the finished fodder raw cut in small particles . Scald the nettle the by boiling water or hot fodder before giving it in order to render harmless burning fibers.

    As a source of vitamins are also used medications like 8 in 1 ÅÕÑÅL brewers yeast.

    Gluconate without the phytin cannot be given. It is possible to give one glycerophosphate according to the table in the dual dosage, since calcium and phosphorus in the correct ratio are found in it.

    In the table the there is a diagram of ratio of calcium and phosphorus 1:1. One tablet of gluconate 0.5 gr. And two tablets of phytin 0.25 gr. each.

    Mineral feeding is given daily.

    Indicated ration and feeding regime are tentative and must change for each puppy individually. Milk food is removed with the reduction of the quantity of feedings from the ration first of all.

    The food of dogs must be porridge-like, it is necessary to salt on its taste. In the separate basin there must always be fresh water. The puppy of Caucasian Mountain dog (Caucasian ovcharka, Shepherd dog, Sheepdog, Kavkazskaya ovcharka) must be fed frequently, but with small portions, following the fact that the stomach would not be fanned from the food, since rare feeding and consumption of the large volumes of food disrupts correct development, formation of backbone and leads to the deflection of back, the bend of front and rear limbs, to change in the constitution of dogs.

    Basin with food is placed on a support by the height, equal to the elbow joint of dog. In proportion to the growth of puppy the height of support must increase. This requirement must be observed to avoid the bend of the spine of the puppy of Caucasian Mountain dog (Caucasian ovcharka, Shepherd dog, Sheepdog, Kavkazskaya ovcharka) from the incorrect pose during the eating.

    Basin with the food is placed for 15 minutes. If puppy rejects to eat during 15 minutes, basin is removed to the following feeding, and it is also necessary to reduce the portion of feedings so that the puppy of Caucasian Mountain dog (Caucasian ovcharka, Shepherd dog, Sheepdog, Kavkazskaya ovcharka) would not overeat.

    Strictly it is forbidden to give raw and boiled bones (animals and birds), since teeth are ground off, bite is disrupted , which is inadmissible for a stock-breeding dog. Bones also cause internal diseases, injuries, internal hemorrhages, bolts, diseases of rectum, the inversion of guts, which frequently leads to the death of young and adult dogs.

    Diagram of the feeding of puppy according to the contemporary method.

    Table of the feeding of puppy according to the contemporary method.

    1st feeding

    at 7 A.M. - dry fodder ("Royal Canin ", for the puppies of large breeds) well soaked in the water from 3 to 4 hours and watered by 10% cream fresh.

    2nd feeding

    12 o'clock - stuffing of raw meat (beef or entrails scar).

    3rd feeding

    5 AM - dry fodder, soaked in water.

    4th feeding

    stuffing of raw or boiled meat.

    It is compulsorily necessary to be adjusted slightly under the puppy of Caucasian Mountain dog (Caucasian ovcharka, Shepherd dog, Sheepdog, Kavkazskaya ovcharka) and to feed him with that it prefers. I recommend the dry fodders: "Royal Canin" Starter from 3 weeks to 2 months, AGR 36 from 2 months to 1,5 years.

    After 2 months you should get from wetted fodder to the dry, but in this case fresh water always must stand in large quantities.

    Vitamins and mineral feedings are also necessary for puppy of Caucasian Mountain dog (Caucasian ovcharka, Shepherd dog, Sheepdog, Kavkazskaya ovcharka). I recommend vitamins "ÅÕÑÅL." American firm "8in1" and the vitamin feeding of the same firm "Calcidee". It is necessary to strictly observe instruction of application, but not on all packings it is printed. Therefore I practice the tested method of giving "Calcidee" for the puppy of a large breed: 1 tablet to 2,5 kg of the weight of dog. A deficiency in the vitamins and mineral feedings leads to the incorrect formation of the bones (rachitis, dysplasia) and is reflected in the dental system (small, weak, brittle teeth, their insufficient quantity).

    Adult dogs is more better feed with entrails or meat; however, entrails for the dogs are considerably more useful than meat, it is even cheaper. Also it is a practically wasteless product.

    I also recommend during the cultivation of puppy of Caucasian Mountain dog (Caucasian ovcharka, Shepherd dog, Sheepdog, Kavkazskaya ovcharka), the treatment of rachitis, bone disease 8 in 1 "Glucosamine" for the regeneration of articulate cartilage, tendons, connective tissue and skin. This medication ensures contribution of the hydrolyzate of gelatin or collagen and is gives favorable influence on the regeneration of connective tissue of supporting-motor apparatus.

    Indications: For preventive maintenance and treating the disturbances in the supporting-motor system of dogs:

    - diseases of paws;

    - for the regeneration of articulate cartilage;

    - with the damages of tendons and their illnesses;

    - with dysplasia;

    Dosages: give daily in accordance with the mass of dog from the calculation 1 tablet to 10 kg. of weight

    Preparation cannot be overdozed, it can be used continuously. Dosage in the beginning of treatment can be increased twice.

    Basic development and growth of a young dog, the formation of its exterior and training behavior flows from the birth of the puppy to the 12- months age, especially from the 1st to 7th month. Therefore precisely during this period it is necessary to pay special attention to cultivation and to training of the puppy of Caucasian Mountain dog (Caucasian ovcharka, Shepherd dog, Sheepdog, Kavkazskaya ovcharka).
